The order of operations is something like this:ġ) BACK UP THE VM (Cloning in SCVMM is very useful)Ģ) Install the WAIK and build a WinPE Boot CD ISO - include Imagex, Bootsect and Diskpart (great start to a tech-toolkit if you don't have one already started)Ĥ) Shut down the VM and change the boot order to CD 1stĥ) Use Hyper-V to create a new VHD of the appropriate size and type (Dynamic or Static.I prefer Static whenever possible)Ħ) Boot the VM to the WinPE ISO and use DiskPart to prepare the NEW VHD diskħ) Use Imagex to /CAPTURE the ORIGINAL VHD disk contentsĨ) When Imagex is done, use DiskPart to swap drive letters and Activate the NEW VHD disk's partitionĩ) Use Imagex to /Apply (deploy) the WIM (image) to the NEW VHD disk partitionġ0) Shutdown the VM using WPEUTIL SHUTDOWN at the WinPE promptġ2) Edit the VM propertied to remove the OLD VHD and set the NEW VHD at Primary:0 connectionġ3) Start the VM and cross your fingers, do a rain dance, whatever :) Using Hyper-V, WinPE, DiskPart.exe, and Imagex.exe, I have been able to boot the VM to WinPE mode, take (/Capture) a WIM image, then deploy (/Apply) that WIM to another (properly sized) VHD.
